NTUC Healthcare Co-operative Limited, a social enterprise established in 1992 by NTUC, is the largest healthcare co-operative in Singapore with 48 Unity pharmacies, 12 Unity Denticare clinics and 4 Unity TCM wellness centres islandwide. BUSINESS SITUATION

NTUC Unity Healthcare IT head Chong Nai Min was looking for a messaging and document management solution that would bring NTUC Unity Healthcare into the new age of Mobility as well as Accessibility anywhere, anytime using any device.

“We were coming into a BYOD age with users coming in with iPhones, iPads and Blackberries,” said Chong. He is director, Information Systems and Technology at NTUC Unity Healthcare.

 

SOLUTION

After evaluating an on-premise Exchange model and Google Mail and Apps, Chong went with Microsoft O365.

Recognising the continuing need for convenient healthcare for customers, NTUC Healthcare was the first to launch tele-pharmacy, an MOH-approved initiative which enables customers to seek health advice and purchase medication even in the physical absence of pharmacists. Its official launch was held at Great World City in October and was witnessed by the then Deputy Secretary General of NTUC, Mr Lim Swee Say.

Embracing an alternate outlook in the health and wellness sector, NTUC Healthcare launched a new concept of lifestyle living with the opening of its first store at Great World City that was remodeled under this new concept. The Living Pharmacy stores boast a wider variety of products plus a variety of organic products to cater to the growing public awareness of organic consumption for a healthier lifestyle. The Living Pharmacy outlet at Great World City also housed an organic café using ingredients sold within the store.

NTUC Healthcare was awarded the SuperBrands award that recognizes the brand as one of the best and most-valued names in Singapore.

 

BUSIness Situation

When NTUC Unity Healthcare IT head Chong Nai Min was looking at his organisation’s email setup, he quickly discovered from the users that the system was inflexible and unsuitable in an era where workers bring their own devices to office.

Another gripe was that documents stored in the company’s file server were not accessible remotely and this was a problem when users had to deliver work from home over the weekends. The alternatives were either for them to return to office to work, or copying files onto thumb drives or mobile devices.
